SCCC Club Weekend in Bangor

SCCC Club Weekend in Bangor

I write this whilst sat in the passenger seat of a car on the A55 on the way home from an excellent SCCC Club Weekend in Bangor. We stayed at Bangor University.

Saturday

We set off early on a lovely Saturday morning to meet up with everyone at Chester Services. A quick cup of coffee (accompanied by a gluten-free chocolate brownie!) and then it was on to Rhyl for the start of the first of the two club rides over the weekend.

Picking up National Cycle Network route 5 we cycled along the coast to Prestatyn. From there we cut inland following an old railway line that gradually climbed to Dyserth.

Then we followed country lanes to the cafe stop at St Asaph.

After a bite to eat we headed back to Rhyl following the cycle path that ran alongside the River Clwyd, passing Rhuddlan Castle along the way.

When we arrived back in Rhyl having finished the ride, a group of us decided that it was such a lovely day why not cycle to Bangor? So off we set, following NCN 5 but this time in the direction of Bangor.

We arrived for the club weekend in Bangor University just before 7pm having covered a further 38 miles. We then enjoyed an evening meal followed by a relaxing evening of socialising.

Sunday

Day two of our club weekend in Bangor began after breakfast when we set off on the second club ride of the weekend. Again we followed  NCN 5, however today we headed for Caernarfon.

Cycling around Caernarfon Castle we followed the coast road around Caenarfon bay. There was a strong headwind which made progress slow.

Lunch was taken at the Black Cat cafe at Parc Glynllifon.

Having struggled with headwinds on the outward journey it was blessed relief to have the wind behind us on a fantastic long downhill path that ran alongside a railway line through Dinas and back in to Caernarfon. We picked up NCN 5 again stopping for well earned refreshments at Y Felinheli, just before Bangor.

And then it was a final climb in to Bangor where we arrived back tired but having enjoyed another great club weekend. Thanks Jim. 🙂
