St Cuthbert’s Way Day 4 – Morebattle to Yetholm

St Cuthbert’s Way Day 4 – Morebattle to Yetholm

St Cuthbert’s Way Walk Day 4 would see us walking from Morebattle to Yetholm – a distance of about 6.5 miles.

Having stayed overnight in Kelso, we then drove back to to the church at Morebattle where we had finished Day 3, to continue where we had stopped the previous day. Today’s walk was going to be split into two parts.

Church at Morebattle

Leaving the church at Morebattle we set off up the hill towards Corbett Tower.

Although we passed near to where Corbett Tower was, we didn’t actually see it! As we turned onto the road alongside Kale Water, we met up with Nicholl again. She was going to join us with the walk over Wideopen Hill.

Bridge over Kale Water

Having crossed over Kale Water, the path took us up towards Grubbit Law.

Passing over Grubbit Law, we continued on towards Wideopen Hill.

Top of Wideopen Hill

Having reached the top of Wideopen Hill (the highest point on St Cuthbert’s Way walk at 1207ft and also the half way point between Melrose and Lindisfarne according to the sign), our routes started to descend back down to the road on the other side.

As we approached the bottom of the hill, we came out onto a green lane which took us down to the road.

Having reached the end of the green, we set Nicholl up with the chair and left her to look after our back packs.

Neil and I then ran back to where the car had been parked to collect it. We went a different route, which avoided Wideopen Hill, but did include running back up the green lane and then along the side of some quiet roads.

Having collected the car and driven back to meet Nicholl, we had a picnic lunch. It was time to continue with part two of the days walk. Part two of the day would be mainly along roads.

When we reached the B6401 (the main road between Morebattle and Yetholm), we turned right and headed towards Yetholm.

As we approached Yetholm, we came off the main road and followed a lovely path that took us to the far side of Yetholm.

When we reached Dow Brae, that was the end of our St Cuthbert’s Way walk for the day, so we turn left and walked into Yetholm where we would be staying for the night.

We were booked in to The Plough Hotel for the night (Interestingly, we had stayed here previously when on our Coast and Castle South tour).

End of day ‘Perfect Pint’

We had walked a total of 6.5 miles which included climbing 1204 feet as well as running 3 miles. You can view all three of our routes below:
