SCCC Annual Club Lunch 2024

SCCC Annual Club Lunch 2024

The SCCC Annual Club Lunch 2024, was an opportunity for Stockport Community Cycling Club to reflect on last year’s events and reward its members for their efforts (you can view previous years’ annual lunches here: 2023, 2022, 2020, 2019, 201820172016, 2015, 2014, 2013).

Hyde Bank Farm

Hyde Bank Farm always provide us with a warm welcome. Once again, as can be seen, we experienced an excellent turnout.

As in previous years, the event was held at Hyde Bank Farm in Romiley. While this has now become more of a wedding and function venue, due to our many years of patronage, they continue to provide us with a warm welcome.

We started with some enjoyable food, before moving on to the awards ceremony.

Club Mileage Medals

First up, medals were awarded to members who have completed 250 miles (bronze), 500 miles (silver) or 1000 miles (gold) cycling with the club.

Then we moved on to 2500 Club Miles awards. These were awarded to two of our members this year:

Mick
Margaret
Mike

Next, we awarded a medal to one of our members who this year had reached 5000 club miles cycling with us:

Des
Martyn

The trophies

Following the medals, it was then time to award the trophies.

We began with the Newcomer of the Year award. This was presented to Michael Paice.

Next up was the Most Unfortunate Rider of the Year. This year it was awarded to Cath Connor, who unfortunately sustained a serious back injury on one of our rides on our SCCC Lancaster club weekend. Des collected the award on her behalf since Cath was away.

Finally, our main trophy, the Jim Court Memorial Trophy. We award this to an individual who has made a special contribution to the club over the last year. This year we awarded this to Paul Codling for stepping up and providing excellent ride-leading contributions. Well done Paul!

Barbara, Jim’s wife, came along as our guest of honour. We provided her with some flowers to thank her for attending along with her family. It was good to see them all.

After Andy had given his thanks to ‘everyone’ little speech, we finished by watching one of our annual ‘Review of the Year’ videos (put together by Andy S).

The Club Lunch 2024 had. as always, been another enjoyable get-together for club members. Well done to everyone who was presented with a medal or award, they were thoroughly deserved. We look forward to many more enjoyable club rides in the upcoming year, and who knows, at next year’s club lunch, maybe one of those medals or awards will be for you!
