Pier-to-Pier

Pier-to-Pier

Once again, we are planning a week-long summer cycle tour with a group of friends from Stockport Community Cycling Club. This Pier-to-Pier tour in 2024 will be our thirteenth summer cycle tour. It is a cycling tradition we have been enjoying since 2010. This year’s team will be Andy P, Andy S, Des, Sarah and Tracey, alongside two newcomers – Mike and Roger.

Our previous summer tours have included Wainwright Coast-to-Coast, Wales Coast-to-Coast – Lon Las Cymru, Coast and Castles South, Pennine Cycleway, End-to-End (JOGLE)Celtic TrailLochs and Glens SouthRavens Route, Lochs and Glens North, Welsh Borders, Anglo-Scottish Border among others.

Clevedon Pier

This coast-to-coast starts from Clevedon Pier, built in 1869, and crosses southern England before finishing at Southend-on-Sea Pier, the current iron version, built in 1890, and which remains the longest pleasure pier in the world. In between these two Victorian piers, there are the major cities of Bristol and London, the Bristol and Bath Railway Path, the first official cycle path in the UK, and the beauty of the North Wessex Downs. There are the historic market towns of Chippenham and Marlborough, the horse racing towns of Newbury and Ascot, and the coastal towns of Leigh-on-Sea and Southend-on-Sea. There is Hampton Court, Richmond Park and the River Thames cycle path. There are canals, cities, countryside, and bridleways. All of this, and more, waiting to be explored by bike!
