Going to Goostrey, a Spin to Spinney …

As you may be aware from our recent posts Sarah has been struggling with her health for the last month or so. So the fact that she was down to lead this latest Stockport Community Cycling Club ride had been an over-riding thought for the last few weeks. Would she be well enough or not? Anyway, she made the start line and that in itself had been in doubt for most of this week.

We met at Adlington Railway station on a damp Sunday morning, the BBC Weather forecast was for showers to start with, clearing up later. No sooner had we set off when the heavens opened!

On with the ‘wets’ as the heavens open

Thankfully the rain didn’t last too long and soon we were cycling through Mottram St Andrew, Alderley Edge and Chelford.

Carter Lane, Chelford

rom there we touched the edge of Snelson before cycling past Jodrell Bank.

We reached Goostrey where we planned to have lunch.

We went to Spinney Coffee Shop, part of the Motorhomes Sales venue, which is actually just the other side of the village in Allostock. This cafe is a cyclists best friend. The owners warmly welcome all cyclists, and provide excellent cheap and basic food, just we want on a ride. It’s great!

After lunch we headed back through Goostrey and then Over Peover, Marthall and Wilmslow.

Resting at Wilmslow Leisure Centre

Sarah ran out of steam at Wilmslow and turned for home just before the end. Including the ride to the start, by the time Sarah arrived back home she had cycled 40+ miles, not bad for someone who had only cycled a total of 15 miles in the previous 5 weeks! The rest of us returned to Adlington Railway Station having completed 34 miles on the club ride. After the initial downpour the weather had held out for the rest of the ride and we were able to enjoy an excellent day of cycling in Cheshire in early December, proving once again that getting out on the bike doesn’t just have to be a summer activity.
