Colwyn Bay – A Day at the Seaside
One of the best cycle routes in the UK has to be the coastal cycle path along the North Wales coast (i.e. sections of National Cycle Network routes 5 & 8). In our last post I mentioned cycling a section of the NCN from Rhyl to Bangor. Unfortunately Sarah couldn’t join us on that ride and hasn’t cycled most of it before. Since it is such a great ride Sarah and I decided to correct that, and cycle between Prestatyn and Caernarfon over a couple of days.
So on a lovely sunny morning we left Colwyn Bay and headed through Rhos-on-Sea and towards Llandudno.
We cycled around the Great Orme.
We next followed the West shore, past Deganwy and on towards Conwy. For parts of this the sand had built up on the path to the point that it was impenetrable by bicycle. We had to push the bikes through.
We then headed back to Colwyn Bay and ate lunch. After lunch we set off in the opposite direction for Prestatyn.
We went through Pensarn, Abergele, Kinmel Bay and Rhyl.
Following a well deserved cup of tea in Prestatyn we headed back towards Colwyn Bay. This proved somewhat harder than the journey out since it was straight in to a headwind.
By the end of the ride we had cycled 52 miles. We then decided to finish an excellent day by enjoying fish and chips sat on Rhos-on-Sea promenade.
