Way of the Roses 2017 Day 3 – Pateley Bridge to York
Tuesday was our Way of the Roses 2017 Day 3 – Pateley Bridge to York. We left Pateley Bridge and it was basically straight uphill!
Once we reached Brimham Rocks, the worse of the hills were done although there were plenty of undulations along the way.
We then continued on to Fountains Abbey.
We stopped off at Fountains Abbey to have a look around. We went in via the West Gate.
Our first stop was the cafe for a drink.
We walked around the remains of the abbey.
We then cycled up (a very cheeky hill) to the main entrance of Fountains Abbey and had a very nice lunch.
After lunch, the route the took us past St Mary’s Church and the Chorister’s House which are also part of the Fountains Abbey site.
The route took us through Studley Royal Deer Park.
We then headed off through Ripon.
We passed through Great Ouseburn.
We crossed over Aldwick Bridge (a toll bridge).
We went through Linton-on-Ouse, where we go past the airfield, then on through Newton-on-Ouse.
We stopped off at Beningbrough Hall for tea and cake. It was very welcome as we had been cycling at a fair pace to make sure we got there before closing.
You may notice a heap of bikes behind the boys. After they had blown over twice we left the bikes in a heap until we were ready to continue!
Feeling better We then had 10 miles to reach York, our destination for the day.
On the outskirts of York, we picked up the path along the river and followed that into the centre of York.
We had to cross over the river. Although there was a ramp up the steps for the bike, it didn’t really work with panniers.
We cycled through the edge of York station and through the streets to the York Ibis where we were staying.
We had cycled 47 miles and I had found it hard going. I had felt tired all day!
