Marple and New Mills

Marple and New Mills

It was a cool Sunday morning when a small group of us met up at Torkington Park in Hazel Grove for this cycle ride out to Marple and New Mills. Andy S had put together this route. It was a follow on from our recent Mellor Cross cycle ride.

After leaving Torkington Park, we made our way up Torkington Old Road.

Then on to the Middlewood Way and a little section of NCN Route 55.

We crossed over the Peak Forest canal at Marple.

Then made our way through Brabyns Park.

Before beginning a climb up towards Lane Ends.

We turned into Ley Lane and followed this up to Mill Brow.

Then on towards Rowarth.

When turning into Shiloh Road, we were picking up the obligatory section of NCN Route 68 that is always included in an Andy S route.

After crossing into Derbyshire, we continued to follow NCN Route 68 for a while.

Before dropping into New Mills down Apple Tree Road.

Once in New Mills, we made a brief stop for a cup of tea.

After the tea-break, we left New Mills and headed out towards Hague Bar.

At Hague Bar, we turned into Waterside Road and made our way to Disley.

In Disley, we crossed over the A6 then turned into Hollinwood Road towards the back of Lyme Park.

It was only a brief visit, however, for as soon as we entered we made our way for the exit.

We crossed the A6, again, and then up Light Alders Lane.

The climbing continued until we arrived on the top of Marple Ridge.

It’s always a great view up there, looking out over Stockport and beyond.

Then it was back down the hill and into Marple.

At the end of Torkington Lane, we left Andy S.

The three of us then continued down into Hazel Grove.

This had been another great little cycle ride. Some challenging climbs up hills had brought some fantastic views.
