Gawsworth and Marton

Gawsworth and Marton

While the coronavirus lockdown continues and group cycle rides remain suspended, our weekly Sunday cycle rides with a couple of our friends has become something to be cherished. For this weekend Neil had put together a route that would take us out to Gawsworth and Marton.

We met at Bramhall Library. It was a cool and windy morning with rain forecast later.

Leaving Bramhall we headed out into Cheshire through Woodford.

And on into Wilmslow.

Though not for long, as we turned away from Wilmslow towards Mottram St Andrew.

We followed a familiar route up Wilmslow Old Road and Oak Road.

At Birtles, we turned left into Alderley Road towards Macclesfield.

We then made our way through Upton Priory and Broken Cross.

Then joined Pexhill Road.

At Pexhill, we picked up the Cheshire Cycleway, local route 70.

After crossing Congleton Road, we reached the village of Gawsworth.

As quickly as we arrived, we were out the other side, following NCN Route 55, and heading for Marton.

We stopped in Marton at The Old Barn for tea and some chips. We had visited this place on a previous Stockport Community Cycling Club ride Neil had led last year.

Refreshed, we turned into Davenport Lane and headed towards Siddington.

The dark clouds were gathering now!

After Siddington, we followed Congleton Lane for a few miles.

Before joining Holmes Chapel Road at Chelford.

From Chelford, we headed towards Nether Alderley.

We briefly followed the cycle path alongside Melrose Way, the A34.

This brought us back into Wilmslow.

Finally, it was back along Woodford Road.

Before turning into Church Lane and back to the start.

This had been another fine Sunday route, it’s always good to get out on the bike, and we had managed to arrive back before the showers.
