Swettenham Ride
The Stockport Community Cycling Club Sunday ride this week was to Swettenham. We met in the car park near Wilmslow Leisure Centre. There were only 13 of us, I think quite a lot of people had been put off by the forecast of the big storm that was due to hit that day. Those of us which had ridden to the start of the ride had found it a little windy but not too bad!
We left Wilmslow and headed out through Alderley Edge and then towards Chelford. We had to make numerous stops in the morning as the pub we were going to for lunch had requested that we didn’t get there until about 12:45.
Lunch was at the Swettenham Arms in Swettenham. It was a really busy place for Sunday lunch and so was a good job that we had booked in advance.
From the pub we set off after lunch and headed past Swettenham Ford. The form looked rather deep and no one was interested in going through the ford. We tried hard to persuade Andy, as he was the leader for the day, but he was having none of it!
We stopped briefly outside the Stags Head at Great Warford and I then discovered quite an issue with my bike – the handlebars had come loose somehow. Although they were straight, the wheel was pointing sideways, which was rather exciting. Thankfully this happened as we where stopped and not whilst I was cycling.
We then made our way back to Wilmslow. You can see the route below:
The ride itself was 30 miles long. Andy and I had cycled to the start and then home again afterwards, which meant that we had cycled about 45 miles that day. It had been a bit windy at times but the weather wasn’t too bad.
