Conwy Half-Marathon Recce

Conwy Half-Marathon Recce

Our blog posts are mainly about our cycling adventures, our day trips and our tours. Occasionally we write posts about walks we have been on, and every so often we have included a post about somewhere we have visited. Strangely however we have never written anything previously about another interest of ours, that of running. This Conwy Half-Marathon Recce post finally corrects that.

On Sunday 24th November we are participating in the Conwy Half-Marathon organised by Run Wales. It will be our first ever half-marathon.

We have been to Conwy and North Wales quite a few times before, it is one of our favourite parts of the country (see Conwy, CaernarvonPorthmadog) but never to run round it! However since the Conwy Half-Marathon includes running around the Great Orme in Llandudno we decided a recce of it beforehand might be wise.

So we set off early on the Saturday morning, a cuppa at Chester Services on the way, and finally arrived in Conwy just before lunch.

Then we headed off down to Conwy Quayside where the race will start.

Then we were off! Pounding our way over Conwy Bridge with Conwy Castle behind us as we made our way towards Deganwy.

Now, perhaps one reason that we don’t write so many post about our running is that it is difficult to take photos whilst running. The two photos above were the only ones we managed, and they were taken early on whilst we still had the energy!

Just over two and a quarter hours later we were back at Conwy Quayside. Tired but quite pleased with ourselves. We had taken things easy, got over the Orme without too much difficulty, and arrived at the finishing line not running like a gramps :-) It gave us a lot of confidence before the real thing in a couple of weeks time.

We then got changed and made our way back in to Conwy for a deserved cuppa and cake at L’s Coffee and Bookshop. We had found this online as somewhere that serves gluten-free food.

We were very fortunate with the weather. It was dry when we were running, but as can be seen from these photos, later in the day the rain came down.

We then went for a short walk around the town, just to keep the legs and body working.

Finally it was time to head for home. We stopped off at the Bells of St Mary’s in Prestatyn for a carvery on the way home.

We always enjoy our visits to Conwy and this one was no different. We were speaking to a member of staff in one of the Conwy stores, himself an enthusiastic runner, and he was sure we will enjoy the whole experience. Having completed the recce, we are now confident we will too.
