SCCC Portland Basin Ride

SCCC Portland Basin Ride

Saturday was the SCCC AGM which was held at the new Brinnington Park Leisure Centre. After the cycling club AGM we went for a ride to Portland Basin.

We set off out of Brinnington towards Bredbury Park Industrial Estate.

Over the M60

Passing the Mill Lane Recreation Ground, where there was a football match in progress.

At Woodley we got onto the Peak Forest Canal.

Think I have a puncture!

Some of us enjoyed a break in the sunshine whilst Mark’s puncture was repaired.

All repaired, we set off again and continued along the canal path again.

Portland Basin Marina

We arrived at the Portland Basin Museum by the Portland Basin Marina, where we were stopping for refreshments.

Feeling refreshed it was time to set off again. This time we followed the Ashton Canal (Portland Basin Marina is at the junction of the two canals).

For the second ride, we had to patch up Andy S’s leg as he had caught it on his peddle and made it bleed!

At Fairfield we came off the canal and made our way onto the Manchester Cycleway, also known as the Fallowfield Loop.

We followed the Manchester Cycleway to North Reddish.

Just leaving the Manchester Cycleway

Passing through North Reddish, we headed down to Reddish Vale Country Park.

Mark’s tyre had gone down again, so Mark and Andy S (the other Andy S) stopped for change the inner tube whilst the rest of us continued onwards.

We cycled along to Reddish Vale Country House.

Cycling through Reddish Value Country Park, where some walked up the steep hill), passing some lovely horses, on our way back to Brinnington.

We arrived back at the new Brinnington Park Leisure Centre. It wasn’t much longer before Andy and Mark joined us having fixed the puncture.

It had been quite an eventful ride with a few punctures and a could of small tumbles but it had been lovely weather for a ride. You can see our route below:
