SCCC Annual Club Lunch 2013
Each January Stockport Community Cycling Club hold their annual club lunch and award ceremony at Hyde Bank Farm in Romiley.
There are four trophies to be awarded and then inividual medals. The trophies are for Club Person of the Year, Most Improved Rider of the Year, Best Newcomer of the Year, and Most Unfortunate Rider of the Year. The individual medals are for the total mileage by the person on official club rides. A bronze medal is for 250 miles, a silver medal for 500 miles and a gold medal for 1000 miles. A new category was added this year to 2500 miles which was a special commemorative mug.
There was some entertainment organised by Bruce and Andy.
It turned out that they wanted all the club leaders to get up on stage and form a choir to perform a song especially written for the occasion. This was a great surprise to all the other leaders!
After the ‘song’ there was a presentation to Jim to say thank you for all the hard work that he puts into the club. There were also flowers for Barbara, to thank her for supporting Jim and allowing him the time for the club. Unfortunately she had been unable to join in today due to taking a fall yesterday.
The first trophy to be presented was that of Best Newcomer, which went to David Clements.
The second trophy was that of Most Unfortunate Rider, which went to Bruce Shepherd for a catalogue of disasters.
The next trophy was the Most Improved Rider, which went to Claire Watts.
The final trophy was that of Club Person of the Year as voted for by the club members. This went to John Houghton and was very deserved!
The SCCC Annual Club Lunch 2013 was very enjoyable and it was good to get to see friends. Despite the cold snowy weather outside, there was a good turnout.
