Lochs and Glens North Day 6 – Aviemore to Inverness

Lochs and Glens North Day 6 – Aviemore to Inverness

Our Lochs and Glens North Day 6 would be the last cycling day of the tour. It would see us cycle from Aviemore to Inverness.

We left High Grange Motel, where we had been staying, and went for some breakfast at Cobbs Cafe in town. It was a great breakfast and a great way to start the day.

Then we picked up The Old Logging Way out of Aviemore.

This took us onto a section of the Speyside Way.

We followed this for a while towards Boat of Garten.

Then we headed for Carrbridge.

We stopped for our morning break at The Old Bakery on the main road through the village.

The village is best known for this bridge …

Our next section would be a long one and would include a climb up to Slochd summit. This began straight after our break.

Through Slochd village and we were nearly there.

Made it!

That first sign was for the train line. This second one was for road traffic.

Then back down again.

Towards Tomatin.

In the village, there was an impressive railway viaduct we passed under that I thought I ought to photograph (just for Tracey).

We passed through Daviot.

A few miles before Inverness are the Clava Chambered Cairns. We decided to stop off and take a look.

This was followed by one last climb, including past the donkeys …

Our late lunch was at the Culloden Battlefield Visitor Centre.

They also have some highland ‘coo’s’ here, which pleased Sarah.

As we passed through Culloden, we enjoyed the various items of woodwork.

Finally, we dropped into Inverness.

We passed the Velocity cycle cafe where we would have breakfast the following morning.

Finally, we arrived at Ness Bridge, and the end of the Lochs and Glens North cycle route.

We were staying at the Inverness Hostel.

In the evening we enjoyed a celebratory evening meal at the Little Italy restaurant.

Today, we had cycled 43 miles and climbed another 2000 feet.

Our full Lochs and Glens North route had covered 217 miles. It has been another great tour, with too many fabulous moments to list.

Sadly, tomorrow, we head home … and on to planning the next tour!
