Little Bollington

Little Bollington

We were back to the colder weather as winter draws to a close. Sarah had once again been out for a long-run and we considered not cycling. In the end, we were glad we did. This cycle route out to Little Bollington provided a few pleasant surprises.

After leaving home, we began by weaving our way through Davenport and Cheadle.

We joined NCN Route 558 and followed this for a while.

At Heald Green, we picked up the Airport Orbital Cycleway.

Following this route took us through Wythenshawe.

The route took us along the side of Wythenshawe hospital where we joined an interesting off-road path through Timperley. It is one we haven’t used very often.

After leaving the path we cycled on through Altrincham.

Then out towards Dunham Massey.

A path along the edge of Dunham Massey park took us to Bollington Mill.

We crossed over the weir.

This brought us to the village of Little Bollington.

After leaving Little Bollington we joined Lymm Road back to the new roundabouts at junction 7 above the M56 motorway. There were paths here we hadn’t been along before.

Eventually, we found the one we wanted.

This took us to a bridge over the motorway I don’t recall us using previously.

It brought us out on to Cherry Tree Lane and then, a little further along, Birkenheath Lane.

This forms a section of the Cheshire Cycleway.

We followed this to Ashley.

Before leaving it at Back Lane. A quick snack was now required.

Back on our travels, we climbed up Castle Hill and then made our way through the airport tunnels on Wilmslow Road. Here, we also rejoined the Airport Orbital Cycleway.

The cycleway took us through Styal.

Then alongside the airport runway.

After leaving Styal, we eventually reached another airport influenced section, the A555, also known as the Airport Bypass road.

It was now early evening, the sun was beginning to go down, and the temperature was dropping.

In fact, the temperature was dropping such that Sarah’s fingers required covering up!

Finally, we made our way back through Bramhall and home. We had covered over 30 miles, another extra few miles further on the road to cycling recovery following my surgery.

The last few miles might have been cold, but thankfully the temperature and weather had been just decent enough for us both to have enjoyed our cycle ride out to Little Bollington.
