Great Warford – Cycling the Cheshire Lanes

Great Warford – Cycling the Cheshire Lanes

With the spring-like weather continuing, Sarah and I were keen to make the most of it and enjoy a weekend cycle ride. Sarah had already run an impressive 11 miles before we set off on our way out towards Great Warford.

It was a sunny day but with a slight chill in the air.

Our route began by heading out through Woodsmoor

Then Bramhall and Cheadle Hulme.

We briefly picked up a section of the A555, the Airport Bypass.

Before turning off and making our way through Handforth and Wilmslow.

After leaving Wilmslow, we cycled on through Morley Green and towards Great Warford.

After cycling along Burleyhurst Lane and then turning into Newton Hall Lane we picked up a section of NCN Route 70, the Cheshire Cycleway. It was good to be back out in the Cheshire Lanes again.

NCN Route 70 took us through Mobberley.

And we continued to follow the Cheshire Cycleway through Great Warford village.

Before eventually turning off and cycling on towards Alderley Edge.

Passing a few interested onlookers on the way.

This also included taking a short break for Sarah to refuel. The morning run catching up a little.

Quickly passing through Alderley Edge, we now began heading back to Wilmslow.

Of course, there are only so many different variations of routes home you can take. So, it was back past the Deanwater Hotel.

Then at Woodford turning off into  Church Lane followed by Blossoms Lane.

Followed by the usual route weaving our way through the side roads and passages of Cheadle Hulme and Bramhall.

Before finally crossing the railway line at Woodsmoor Lane.

Today we had cycled nearly 26 miles. Nothing special in terms of distance really. However, this was the furthest I have cycled since my hip operation. One more step on the road to recovery … and a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon cycle ride too.
