Cycling it (and walking it) in Lincoln
Lincoln is our fourth short break of the year. Each time we have taken our bikes with us, and for each of the previous trips the poor weather conditions have meant the bikes have stayed firmly in the back of the car. Until today. FINALLY we were able to wake up and get ready for a bike ride!
Following National Cycle Network Route 64 we began by cycling along Fossdyke Navigation (or canal).
Coming off the canal there is a tricky bit as the route follows the busy A57 for a stretch. Thankfully once off the A57 at Saxilby the rest of the route is lovely and peaceful and passes through Skellingthorpe before reaching Thorpe on the Hill.
We next dropped into Whisby Nature Park and decided to have a cup of tea …as you do.
It was then back on the road again as we continued through Eagle, Swinethorpe and Harby.
Finally we picked up NCN 647 and returned to Lincoln.
It was late afternoon when we decided to go for a walk around Lincoln itself.
The castle was covered up due to extensive restoration taking place, and impossible to photograph. Lincoln Cathedral too was being restored. Thankfully however most of it could be photographed.
We also took a look at some of the other historic buildings and edifices in the old town.
Finally it was time to eat. We chose the Paradise Indian Buffet Restaurant – and a good choice it was too!
