Bank Holiday in Wales
The plan was to spend the August bank holiday cycling and to check out a route around Bangor that would be used at the SCCC weekend away in a couple of weeks time. Unfortunately we had forgotten to book good weather! We woke up to wind and really strong winds. This made taking the tent down a very interesting although rather wet process. We almost lost the tent to the wind! Instead of folding it all up nicely, we settled on just stuffing it in the back of the car!
Having packed the car we decided on a change of plan, the wind being too strong. We decided to drive to Llandudno and have a go at walking up the Great Orme instead.
We walked past the pier and up to Happy Valley where we had a picnic lunch.
We carried on up the hill, past the ski slope and then started up the Orme. The heather was lovely.
We joined the summit trail
Past the natural well.
On up to Saint Tudno’s Church.
Next door is another chapel.
From there we continued up to the summit.
As we got to the summit the wind was unbelievable! It was so strong that it was hard to walk! Standing up was quite hard, as was taking photos as you couldn”t hold your phone still.
Having had a cuppa in the summit cafe, we started down again, generally following the cable car and tram tracks.
We stopped for tea at the Asia Indian Restaurant, where the food was fantastic!
A lovely end to a great weekend. There was a great sunset as we drove home.
