Wythenshawe 2020
It was a wet and windy Saturday morning when five Stockport Community Cycling Club members arrived at the top of Hollywood Park, Edgeley, for the Wythenshawe 2020 cycle ride. Clearly, the oncoming Storm Dennis had put most of our members off the idea of cycling today.
Andy Shaw was today’s ride leader, and Sarah was the back-leader.
We began by dropping down through the park towards Stockport town centre, following NCN Route 558.
Under the viaduct …
Then round towards Underbank and picking up NCN Route 62.
After leaving the town centre we would make our way towards South Reddish.
Through South Reddish Park.
Then on through Reddish towards Heaton Chapel.
We picked up Nelstrop Road North and cycled through the puddles.
Followed by the mud of Highfield Country Park.
This brought us out on to the Fallowfield Loop, NCN Route 60.
We followed the Fallowfield Loop for the next few miles.
Crossing over Wilmslow Road at Fallowfield.
We then left NCN Route 60 at Hough End Park.
This brought us on to Princess Road.
This also forms local cycle network route 85.
We crossed over the River Mersey.
Soon we arrived at Wythenshawe Park.
As you can see, it was rather wet.
Our coffee stop in Wythenshawe Park was at the Courtyard Tea Room.
Wythenshawe Hall was badly fire damaged a few years ago. Thankfully, as you can see the restoration is going well, and the Hall is due to re-open later this year.
After leaving the park, we continued along local cycle network route 85 towards Benchill.
Soon, we were cycling through Wythenshawe town centre following the tram line.
Then, from there we rejoined NCN Route 558 at Heald Green.
This brought us to Brookfields Park.
We weaved our way through Cheadle.
Before finally returning through Edgeley.
The second half of our ride had been dry and with the wind behind us. Sarah and I were glad we had made the effort and turned up for the ride, for, in the end, we had enjoyed getting out on our bikes.
