Today on Pennine Cycleway – Day 3 we cycled from Bellingham to Alston. Bellingham Bunkhouse was a good place to stay. The ride started with a big climb – a theme for the day! As we reached Keilder Forest, we found some interesting scarecrows. Once past Keilder,  we crossed over Hadrian’s Wall. We stopped at Haltwhistle for lunch. Well today was Hadrian’s Cycleway Day 5 and our last day of cycling Hadrian’s Cycleway. We left Corbridge and headed out down the country lanes. Along the way we passed a small cottage (owned by the National Trust) which is where George Stephenson was born (and lived until he was 8). Following yesterdays entry into Hadrian’s Wall Country, Hadrian’s Cycleway Day 4 enabled us to visit a further three Roman forts as we continued our journey. It was yet another lovely sunny day as we left our little cottage at Haltwhistle.    Our first fort of the day was Vindolanda Roman Fort. Hadrian’s Cycleway Day 3. Before leaving Carlisle and starting our cycling, we wanted to take some time to have a look around. Our first stop was Carlisle Cathedral. Having locked up the bikes,  we had a look inside the Cathedral. From there we cycled over to Carlisle Castle,  which is maintained by English Heritage. Hadrian’s Cycleway Day 2. Following Hadrian’s Cycleway Day 1 of our tour, today was our longest day, from Cockermouth to Carlisle. This would mean cycling back to Workington and then following the coast up to the start of Hadrian’s Wall. From there we would finish the day by cycling on to Carlisle.
