Scottish Borders Day 3 – Hawick to Kelso

Scottish Borders Day 3 – Hawick to Kelso

Having spent the night in Hawick with some good friends, we were not in a rush to leave and begin our Scottish Borders Day 3 cycling. We went for a walk around Hawick Golf Course. It was a cool but bright day.

Looking back down to Hawick

After lunch we got ready to continue our cycling tour. We found some confetti in our cycle jerseys which we had washed there and then found that we had also had some balloons attached to our bicycles! It is normal protocol for a honeymoon apparently.

We set off from our friends house, into Hawick centre and then along the river.

We were soon out of town and heading towards Jedburgh.

There was a very definite up out of Denholm.

The views were fantastic!

Jedburgh Castle & Jail

We stopped to have a quick look at Jedburgh Abbey.

It was time then for a cuppa at the Abbey View Cafe.

The lady said the teapot matched Andy’s jacket!

After our cuppa, we left Jedburgh following the Four Abbeys Way.

We were heading towards Roxburgh.

After a climb, it was time for a quick snack before completing the last few miles.

Floors Castle

As we arrived in Kelso, we had a brief stop at Kelso Abbey.

The old Abbey is on the edge of town.

We were staying at a B&B called Duncan House – it doesn’t look much from the outside but it was very nice inside!

The balloons had made it all the way to Kelso, although mine was looking a little worse for wear!

View from our room

We went to a pub called The Cobbles for our evening meal. It was really busy and we got the last free table!

We had cycled about 26 miles with a few sneaky hills thrown in. Our balloons had certainly attracted some attention along the way!
