SCCC Ride to Lymm
The SCCC Ride to Lymm started today from the TPT (Trans Pennine Trail) car park at the end of Atlantic Street, Broadheath, Altrincham. Today’s ride leader was the very lovely Gill. The back leader was meant to be Andy P but he was busy working on his OU assignment, so I stepped in and said that I would be the back leader instead. However when I looked at the weather forecast the night before, I wasn’t looking forward to it as it showed heavy rain all day! At the start of the ride, it was a little damp but not too bad.
We set off along the roads, along Black Moss Road and headed towards Dunham Massey
After about 5 miles we stopped on Dunham Road as Miguel had a puncture – it turned out that he had a huge thorn in his tyre.
Once the inner tube had been changed, we set off again through Warburton and on into Lymm outskirts
We jumped onto the TPT (Trans Pennine Trail) for a short stretch before peeling off into Lymm itself.
Once we arrived in Lymm itself, we initially went to see if there was enough space for us all on the cafe boat, but it seemed not. We stopped in the middle of Lymm and broke into a number of groups to spread ourselves around the cafe’s there.
Severn of us went to The Terrace, which was very nice and was actually where we ate the last time we did this ride! I had a mediteranean vegetable sandwich made with gluten free bread – very tasty!
Whilst we where waiting for everyone to meet up again, Nick and I went to look at the dinosaur footprint that they have on display there.
Finally, we were all ready to continue our ride. By now it was raining quite hard and we where starting to feel a little miserable.
We headed out of Lymm along Pepper Street, over some cobbles and down some nice quite lanes.
Passing St Peters C of E Church
Over a little single track bridge over the canal
Briefly we cycled along the A56 before turning off and going past the pub called The Swan with Two Nicks then over a very narrow footbridge over the River Bollin.
This brought us out near Dunham Massey, we turned off and went past the Dunham Brewery. It was along this lane that John realised he had a huge torn in his front wheel. Thankfully the tyre seemed to stay up and he got to the end of the ride without a problem.
We then made our way back to the TPT car park at the end of Atlantic Street. Right near the end of the ride Arthur realised that his brakes were not working (front or back). We managed to adjust them enough so that he could ride home safely. The SCCC Ride to Lymm today was 16 miles long. We were all rather wet by the time the ride finished! Although it was wet all day, the morning wasn’t too bad but the afternoon was a little unpleasant (weather wise)!
