Plumley – A post-Christmas circular cycle ride

Plumley – A post-Christmas circular cycle ride

After the usual too much eating and drinking at Christmas, a group of Stockport Community Cycling Club friends decided we needed to get back on our bikes. Mike P kindly organised a cycle ride from Plumley taking in the Cheshire lanes. That would do the trick! Not only that, it turned out to be one of those glorious wintry days ideal for cycling.

We met at The Smoker, an inn on Chester Road.

After leaving the inn car park, we set off up Linnards Lane.

Following Linnards Lane brought us to Wincham.

We cycled through the village of Pickmere.

Followed by Pick Mere itself.

Soon, we joined local cycle network route 70 as we made our way to our next Cheshire village, Great Budworth.

Great Budworth is always a favourite with cyclists, for both cycling through and stopping for a break. We were cycling through today.

The next mere we passed was Budworth Mere.

After Great Budworth came Cumberbach.

We then cycled on towards Little Leigh.

Our group took a break at the Let’s Eat Cafe on the A49 at Lower Whitley.

After the coffee break, we briefly followed the A49 to Marsh Lane.

We briefly left Cheshire and entered Halton while cycling along Higher Lane.

Then rejoined Cheshire along Grimsditch Lane.

We stopped for a few moments at Higher Whitley to enjoy the local scenery.

After setting off again we picked up Knutsford Road.

This took us through Antrobus.

Knutsford Road would eventually become Budworth Heath Lane. After which we would turn in to Budworth Road and pass through Aston-in-Budworth.

After turning in to Frog Lane we cycled back towards Pickmere.

Finally, we rejoined Park Lane as we returned to the start.

Our post-Christmas cycle ride had covered just over 23 miles. You can view our Plumley festive circular route below:

After cycling our day finished with lunch at The Smoker. It was a well-earned meal, and the food didn’t disappoint. All-in-all, this had been an excellent day out cycling around the Cheshire lanes, with a great finish.
