Nether Alderley
For this latest Stockport Community Cycling Club cycle ride we met in the layby in front of the Deanwater Hotel. Our destination was Nether Alderley.
It was an overcast morning but hopefully, it would stay dry.
Straight out of the layby we tackled our first climb. This took us up the hill at the end of Woodford Road. After which we turned into Lees Lane.
This took us into Mottram St Andrew.
Lees Lane isn’t a pleasant lane to cycle along, but thankfully we soon turned into Mill Lane and a much quieter road.
A little further along we turned into Wilmslow Old Road and began the main climb of the day.
It was a long and steady climb that took us through Mottram St Andrew village.
Eventually, we arrived at Over Peover village hall. Now at the top of the climb we took a short rest.
Leaving the village hall we turned into Hocker Lane.
This is a lovely quiet lane.
It wasn’t supposed to rain today, but never mind, it started to drizzle anyway and continued to the end. Thankfully, it was only light.
However, at the end of it is Bradford Lane. This is a cobbled lane that shakes the bones. I asked John, our back leader today, if he had spotted any teeth left on the ground. Thankfully, he hadn’t!
In truth, not everyone had enjoyed being shaken. So we quickly moved on.
Next we crossed over Congleton Road and into Sand Lane.
At the end of Sand Lane is Welsh Row. This forms a section of the Cheshire Cycleway.
Eventually, we arrived in Great Warford and on Paddockhill Lane. Here is White Peak Alpaca Farm. We stopped for a short break outside. Unfortunately for us, the alpacas were today on the furthest field away from the lane.
Having enjoyed our snacks we cycled on towards Wilmslow.
This took in Lindow Common.
Then the outskirts of Wilmslow town centre.
Out the other side, there was one last hill to climb, up Wilmslow Park South.
The ride finished by heading back down Woodford Road.
This 17 mile ride had proved challenging. That said, everyone seemd to enjoy it.
