Morecambe Short – SCCC Lancaster Club Weekend Sneek-Peek

Morecambe Short – SCCC Lancaster Club Weekend Sneek-Peek

The final cycle ride of our little Lancaster recce trip in advance of the SCCC Club Weekend was the Morecambe Short ride. It was, in essence, the same route as the Morecambe Long ride, just in reverse … and a couple of sections removed to make it … ermmm … short.

While the Knott End cycle ride at the beginning of the trip had been a matter of dodging the rain, the sun finally made an appearance as the weekend progressed. So it was when we set off from the Lancaster University campus and headed down towards Galgate we were met with an overcast though warm start to the day.

From Galgate we headed out towards the Conder Green and the River Lune estuary following NCN Route 6.

At Conder Green we once again joined the path alongside the River Lune. This, of course, is the same path we have cycled along previously on the Bay Cycle Way.

We had to wait near to Aldcliffe while Andy S did his good deed of the day and returned a dog tag to its dog owner. He returned, unsure whether the good deed had actually been appreciated it must be said.

Anyway, we continued along the cycle path heading for Lancaster.

The over the Millennium Bridge.

Followed by picking up the path on the other side of the river and following NCN Route 69, also known as The Way of the Roses route, towards Morecambe.

Soon we arrived on the seafront.

It was now a lovely day as we cycled along the esplanade.

We stopped near the statue of Eric Morecambe and went to recce some eating establishments. We thought about eating at them all, but settled on just one … for now.

Leaving Eric behind, we continued along the esplanade.

At the end of the esplanade we left the seafront and made our way up to the Lancaster Canal.

We followed the canal all the way to Lancaster.

It included cycling over the Lune Aqueduct.

We continued to follow the canal through Lancaster, bypassing the traffic.

We eventually left the canal at Scotfirth and weaved our way back into the university campus.

The campus sits on a hill and provided for the biggest climb of the day on this 24 mile almost pan flat ride.

We reckon this is going to be a cycle route which club members  attending the weekend are going to really enjoy.
