Manchester Velodrome
Saturday started out with the weather being overcast as Stockport Community Cycling Club members gathered at Houldsworth Mill in Reddish for a cycle ride to Manchester Velodrome led by Sarah.
We began by heading out through Reddish Vale Country Park.
After climbing over the M60 at Brinnington we continued through Denton.
On the edge of Denton the route went under the M57 as it briefly followed the River Tame.
We then took a passage up to the Peak Forest Canal.
The route followed the towpath of the canal towards Dukinfield.
At Portland Basin we picked up the Ashton Canal.
The Ashton Canal took us through Guide Bridge and Audenshaw and back under the M60.
We stopped off en-route to visit the Moravian Settlement at Fairfield.
Then it was back on to the Ashton Canal to the Manchester Velopark.
We enjoyed a coffee break at the Velopark Cafe, after which Jim took us on a tour of the Manchester Velodrome which is the home of British Cycling.
It includes the recently built BMX Arena.
After the tour of Manchester Velodrome it was time to get back on our bikes and head back to the start. Initially e got back on the Ashton Canal again.
Then, following NCN Route 60 we threaded our way through Gorton.
Finally and picked up the Fallowfield Loopline.
We arrived back at Houldsworth Mill having cycled just over 15 miles.
