Lincolnshire Lost Lanes Day 3 – Lincoln to Louth

Lincolnshire Lost Lanes Day 3 – Lincoln to Louth

Having arrived in Lincoln the previous day, today would take us over halfway through our cycle tour. For Lincolnshire Lost Lanes Day 3 we would leave historic Lincoln and cycle over to Louth.

First, we went for some breakfast at Cafe Zoot.

We took some final photos in front of the cathedral.

Then we were on our way again …

Our route began by navigating our way through the streets of Lincoln.

We joined NCN Route 1 and this took us over the River Witham.

Where we joined the Water Rail Way cycle path.

It follows the former Lincoln to Boston railway line. The line opened in 1858 and was operational until 1971.

It was a flat route with some great views of the fens landscapes as it runs along the side of the River Witham.

The full length of the path is 33 miles long.

However, we left the path after 10 miles upon reaching Bardney.

From Baumber we continued on through the ‘lost lanes’ in the direction of Hemingby.

We were looking for somewhere to eat. Unfortunately, it would prove elusive until we reached Louth.

After cycling through Goulceby, and then turning off Asterby Lane, we headed up Red Hill, our major climb of the tour. It wasn’t long, but it was certainly sharp!

We took a few minutes to recover.

Then headed down the other side.

Pretty much all the way into Louth.

We arrived in Louth nice and early. So we sought out a cafe and found Tina’s Cafe.

Afterwards, we took a look around the town and found St James’ Church. It is notable for having the tallest medieval parish church spire in England and being the location of the Lincolnshire Rising.

Our accommodation for the evening was at The Masons Arms. Our evening began with a traditional tour whisky at Cobbles Bar.

After which we popped next door to Bar Castillejar. This was a wonderful little Spanish tapas restaurant.

We had cycled another thirty miles today and we had now reached the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds. This was proving to be another thoroughly enjoyable cycle tour. Tomorrow we are off to Cleethorpes.
