Foxwist Green Ride

Foxwist Green Ride

Sunday 10th November was the Stockport Community Cycling Club eXtra ride to Foxwist Green. The eXtra rides tend to be slightly longer than normal Sunday rides. This week we met in the car park near to Wilmslow Leisure Centre. It was a chilly but bright morning.

We left Wilmslow and cycled off down to the new(ish) Alderley Edge bypass and cycled along the cycle path there. About half way along we turn off near Nether Alderley and headed along along Welsh Row and Nursery Lane.

Through Chelford, and then headed down towards Jodrell Bank.

We then headed through Goostrey and on to Middlewich.

From Middlewich we then joined the Shropshire Union Canal and cycled along that for a while.

We left the canal  at Clive Green, following a short muddy lane before heading into Winsford. We left Winsford via Grange Lane.

We followed Grange Lane into Whitegate where we then turned left and headed to Foxwist Green for lunch was at The Plough Inn. The food was great and the service was very good, despite them being really busy! We were a little late arriving due to a puncture along the way.

After lunch we headed back the way we had come to Whitegate, passing the end of Grange Lane, before heading down Mill Lane towards Meadow Bank, Moulton and Davenham. We had to stop briefly for a second puncture.

We then headed through Lach Dennis.

Heading back through Lower Peover before the group encountered out third puncture of the ride! As it was getting late the decision was taken to split the group the try and get the main group back to Wilmslow before it got dark. It was great that there were a good number of leaders on the ride which allowed us to do this. Our thanks to those who stepped in to help with this! The way back was through Ollerton, Great Warford and on to Wilmslow.

The main group had not been back more than about five minutes before the final group of three riders arrived, having fixed the final puncture. The ride was 45 miles long and I think everyone had a good time, even Peter who suffered two puncture that day! We hope it didn’t put him off from coming out with us again.

Andy and I then cycled back home again (it was dark by the time we set off though). By the time we got home we had cycled exactly 60 miles that day.
