Chester Zoo Ride

Chester Zoo Ride

Saturday (1st June) was the SCCC Chester Zoo ride, which started out near Chester, A group of us decided that it was a good to cycle to the start of the ride and then obviously(?) back home again. We set off at 7 am and then cycled through Frodsham to Mollington (where the ride officially started from). This was about 40 miles.

The official ride was basically a figure of eight which involved us cycling along the Shropshire Union Canal then round and along a cycle path that took us through the edge of Chester Zoo before heading back to the canal.

There were reports of people spotting lions, antelope and giraffes but I have to say that I didn’t see any animals at all as we went through the edge of the zoo.

Our next loop took us along the canal and then onto the cycle path along the edge of the river Dee. It was lovely but we were fighting a head wind all the way along.

We stopped for lunch at a great little cafe in Garden City. I was very grateful to stop and have a rest and to refuel by this point! The afternoon route took us along a cycle path with went along the route of an old railway line before we joined up with the canal again which took us back to Mollington.

The club ride was 26 miles long but was a very enjoyable ride.

After a short rest a party of us set off to cycle back home. We get to Frodsham where we stopped briefly as Graham has developed a puncture before heading on towards home. Graham had an unfortunate ride back as later (after fixing the picture) his rear mudguard snapped and got wrapped around itself.

By the time we got home, Andy and I had cycled 108 miles in total. I found the last four or five hard going and was very glad to get back home. However it was a great day out and the weather was also good.
