Ferry ‘cross the Mersey 2018

Ferry ‘cross the Mersey 2018

Ferry ‘cross the Mersey 2018 ride represented this year’s day out to Liverpool and Wallasey for one of Stockport Community Cycling Club‘s perennial favourite club rides.

It was a fine sunny day as we left Otterspool Drive car park.

Jim leads us out on to the promenade

We quickly joined Otterspool Promenade.

And cycled alongside one side of the River Mersey.

We headed for the Liverpool Pier Head ferry terminal.

We arrived at the terminal early enough to enjoy a coffee at the cafe.

Then it was time to board the ferry.

The ferry took us to Seacombe Ferry Terminal.

Leaving the terminal we joined New Brighton promenade as we continued along NCN Route 56.

This took us past Wallasey Town Hall.

Further along, we cycled through New Brighton.

We eventually reached Hoylake.

Here, we stopped for lunch at the Green Lodge Hotel.

Just as we were leaving Miguel and Ian arrived! They, however, decided to stop for lunch and cycle a route of their own.

We left the coast and cycled through along the side of the Hoylake golf club

We turned on to Saughall Massie Road and followed this for a while.

We turned off towards Arrowe Country Park.

This took us through to Woodchurch.

A little further along we rejoined NCN Route 56.

We followed this through Bidston.

Weaving our way through the streets of Wallasey we cycled through Central Park.

We dropped back down on to the promenade and made our way back to Seacombe ferry terminal.

We rejoined ‘Snowdrop’, the Razzle Dazzle ferry. This brightly coloured ferry is a mobile artwork by Sir Peter Blake titled Everybody Razzle Dazzle. It was commissioned as part of Liverpool’s First World War commemorations.

Back on the other side of the River Mersey we returned along the promenade again.

This had been another day of great cycling on the Wirral. We had cycled approximately 36 miles.
