Clyde to Forth
For a fuller description of this route see – Clyde to Forth 2021
The Clyde to Forth tour was described by Sustrans as a ‘cycle across Scotland from Gourock on the Firth of Clyde to the spectacular city of Edinburgh on the Union and the Forth and Clyde Canals’.
We decided to undertake this short Scottish coast-to-coast cycle tour in Autumn 2011. It was less than 100 miles in total and would serve as an early training tour for our upcoming End-to-End (LEJOG). Five of us participated in this tour – Andy, Sarah, Andy S, Bruce and Paul.
The route officially starts at Gourock, a port on the Firth of Clyde, and follows a predominantly traffic-free route into Glasgow via Paisley. Upon reaching Bells Bridge in Glasgow city centre it then follows a traffic-free path along the Clyde. Here we stopped at Glasgow YHA.
The following day, our route should have continued by following the canals. However, due to poor weather, we decided to amend the route and instead stay on the roads. We, therefore, cycled through Coatbridge and Airdrie on our way into Edinburgh.
