Cheadle Hulme Circular Afternoon Ride
After the previous weekends’ snowy ride to Lymm, it was pleasing to arrive in far more pleasant weather at Adswood Park. This was the start point for the Stockport Community Cycling Club Cheadle Hulme Circular afternoon ride.
Originally the ride was going to include a section along the new Ladybrook Valley path (hence the initially being titled ‘Ladybook Valley’). Unfortunately, the path hasn’t been completed and Andy S, therefore, put together this alternative route.
Andy Sykes was the leader of this ride, and Jim the back-leader. A rare day-off in terms of leading for Sarah and I. Though we were on corner duty.
The ride started by crossing the road into Evesham Road.
The route then followed the roads through the estate.
Before briefly turning back on to Councillor Lane and picking up NCN Route 558.
Turning off NCN Route 558, we made our way towards Roscoe’s roundabout and crossed into Abney Hall Park.
Usually, we follow the path around the edge of the park. However, on this occasion, Andy took us along a different path and through the gardens.
This section took us past the front of Abney Hall. Andy informed us that a couple of Agatha Christie wrote couple of her stories from here, and indeed the Hall was the inspiration for the setting of a couple more.
Leaving the park we crossed the road and cycled past Alexandra Hospital.
After weaving our way through the back streets of Cheadle, we eventually arrived at Bruntwood Park.
These are the grounds of another Victorian hall (now a hotel).
Next, our route took us briefly along Cheadle Road, before turning into Old Wool Lane.
At the end of this, we cycled along the side of the small industrial estate.
Then before on to Queens Road turning off on to Radnormere Drive, and through this estate.
This brought us to Cheadle Hulme village.
After cycling through the village we turned off towards Bramhall.
We eventually turned off down Tenement Lane.
Then crossed over into Twining Brook Road.
Finally, we turned off Cotebook Drive, back on to Councillor Lane, and returned to the start.
We had cycled just under ten miles. These Stockport Community Cycling Club afternoon rides are ideal for anyone or any family who just wants to join a group and enjoy a gentle afternoon of cycling.
