Cale Green WOW Ride 2018
Women on Wheels is a TfGM initiative for a series of March events aimed at encouraging more women to cycle. Stockport Community Cycling Club led a couple of rides last year (see here and here) and another one earlier this month. This was a repeat Cale Green WOW ride, though this year with an extended route.
Similar to last year, we provided women ride leaders, while the men acted as supporting marshals. Sarah led the ride.
Our team arrived at Cale Green Primary school early to recce the route first.
Andy S even brought a cycling helmet with him.
The ride was just one of a host of activities taking place, including an obstacle course and Woodsons Cycles Bike Doctor.
CERA Cycloan also gave away three bicycles as a raffle prize.
This year Jim had put together a slightly longer ride.
After leaving the school we set off towards Cale Green Park.
The route then headed towards Woodsmoor.
The idea was that the guys went on ahead of the women and took up positions on corners and other locations where safety awareness was required.
For example, sometimes this meant taking up positions to provide traffic awareness at junctions.
After Woodsmoor, the route headed off through Davenport and on to Adswood.
Another role for the marshalls was to assist when met with obstacles, such as getting bikes over bridges.
The route headed back through Cheadle Heath before finally returning through Shaw Heath.
The ride had covered nearly 7 miles. All the women who had ridden with us said they had really enjoyed themselves.
For Stockport Community Cycling Club this had been another well-organised ride. It is, after all, what we do best!
