Barton Aerodrome 2018 – A Cycle Ride to City Airport

Barton Aerodrome 2018 – A Cycle Ride to City Airport

Finally, we were promised by the weathermen a bit of sunshine. It’s been a long time coming. It still seemed a long way off as a healthy crowd of Stockport Community Cycling Club members met at Sale Water Park for this Barton Aerodrome 2018 cycle ride.

Leaving the car park, we set off down one side of the Water Park.

A little further along we turned off and headed towards the Bridgewater Canal.

Low branch – mind your head!

Cycling along the canal we were following the Bridgewater Way, also known as Local Network Route 82.

This took us through Stretford and Trafford.

The fresh air affects cyclists in many ways!

We crossed the Manchester Ship Canal using the Barton Road Bridge.

At Patricroft, we picked up the Port Salford Greenway.

We then turned into Peel Green cemetery.

This provided a shortcut through to Liverpool Road.

Where a little further along we cycled up the entrance to City Airport.

For those with gluten allergens, such as Sarah, the cafe is an excellent one to visit. They have lots of tasty options to choose from.

After the coffee break, we were treated to a tour and a talk from the Duty Manager.

There was a busy section after leaving the airport as we made our way back along Liverpool Road.

We crossed under the M60 using the new Salford Western Gateway.

After negotiating the crossings near to the Trafford Centre, we weaved our way through Davyhulme.

Next, we made our way along the edge of Stretford Meadows.

We then joined NCN Route 62 and the Trans Pennine Trail.

Finally, we retraced our outward route for the last mile back to the start.

This ride had covered 15 miles and had been another enjoyable route around the south-east Manchester area. Oh … and the sun had come out by the time we returned 🙂
