Alderley Edge and Wilmslow

Alderley Edge and Wilmslow

The forecast for the weekend indicated lots of foul weather. So it was that most Stockport Community Cycling Club riders decided to stay at home, and only eight turned up for this ride out to Alderley Edge and Wilmslow. Indeed, this was the only group, the usual second group ride wasn’t required.

The poor weather seemed a distinct possibility, for it was a cold and damp journey for Sarah and me on our way to the start at the layby next to the Deanwater Hotel in Woodford. Andy S was leading this ride today, and Sarah was the back-leader.

Upon leaving the layby we headed up Woodford Road, then turned into Lees Lane.

Continuing up Lees Lane brought us to the edge of Mottram St Andrew.

Lees Lane is always a busy road, and we are always glad when we reach Mill Lane and turn off.

At the end of Mill Lane, after a quick right and then a left, we headed up Wilmslow Old Road.

At the top of the hill is Mottram St Andrew village.

Here we turned right and headed for Alderley Edge.

Alderley Road becomes Mottram Road.

Before turning into Chapel Road when reaching Alderley Edge village.

Crossing over London Road, we entered Chorley Hall Lane followed by Chelford Road.

Further on we turned into Foden Lane.

At the corner of Foden Lane and Knutsford Road we took a short break.

It was cold, so we didn’t hang around too long before getting back on our bikes.

A mile or so further up Knutsford Road we reached the outskirts of Wilmslow.

Then after weaving our way through the back streets, we arrived in the town centre.

Leaving the town centre we joined Manchester Road and headed for Handforth.

We cycled straight through Handforth.

Then turned off onto the A555, the Manchester Airport Eastern LInk Road, and followed this for the next few miles.

Andy S, our well wrapped up ride leader for the day

We left the A555 at Woodford.

Then turned into Blossoms Lane.

Followed by Church Lane.

Before, finally rejoining Woodford Road back to the start.

We had cycled nearly 16 miles today. It had been cold all morning, but thankfully dry. The promised poor weather had largely not materialised, and we had been able to enjoy a fine cycle ride. Then, just as we were leaving for home, the rain finally appeared again. With the wind also picking up, our cycle ride home was no fun at all!
