A Sort of Alderley Edge Recce

A Sort of Alderley Edge Recce

Andy S put together the route for this Sunday Alderley Edge recce cycle ride. He combined a recce of his upcoming Stockport Community Cycling Club ride that he is due to lead and extended it to come up with this route for the latest of our regular Sunday outings.

We met at the entrance to the Ladybrook Cycleway again.

It was another cool morning as we set off racing through Cheadle Hulme.

Andy later admitted that he had set off rather fast … stating it was the direction he often took to the start of some SCCC rides and he was usually late!

Soon we were heading down Blossoms Lane and making our way towards Woodford.

Then on to Mottram St Andrew.

From Lees Lane we turned into Mill Lane and headed towards the village centre.

In Mottram St Andrew village we turned off towards Alderley Edge.

Thankfully, we weren’t cycling up this local iconic cycling climb!

After reaching Alderley Edge village we continued through to Lindow End and Chorley.

Our next town was Wilmslow.

Where we passed a section of the early cricket season in full progress.

We decided to take a short break at Handforth.

Then continued on and joined the Airport Relief Road, the A555.

We followed the airport road to Bramhall.

Next, we cycled through Poynton. For some reason I never fathomed, I was finding it hard cycling today.

After cycling through the village we continued up Middlewood Road.

This took us up to Higher Poynton and then down through Norbury Hollow.

The clouds ahead were dark overhead suggesting something was brewing. In the meantime, we cycled down Buxton Old Road.

While cycling down Jacksons Lane the weather took a turn for the worse. It was a tough finish to the ride.

Thankfully, as quickly as the sleet had arrived it now disappeared.

So, thankfully we were able to enjoy the finish.

This had been a (mainly) enjoyable 29-mile ride out to Alderley Edge. I have to admit, there were stages where I really struggled on this cycle ride. Nonetheless, it was, as always, good to be cycling with friends.
