Wedgewood – SCCC Keele Club Weekend

Wedgewood – SCCC Keele Club Weekend

On the SCCC Keele Club Weekend there were 2 rides available on the Sunday – a long ride and a shorter ride (this ride). I was leading the shorter ride out to the World of Wedgewood, which had been designed by Tracey. We waited until the other Sunday ride (the longer one of the two) had departed – they were late leaving. We had met up outside the sport centre at Keele University.

The first 8 miles of the ride were actually the same as the longer ride. We left the back entrance of Keele University, crossing over the M6 Keele Services.

Having passed the Whitmore Tea Rooms on the junction of Three Mile Lane and the A53, we continued on along Bent Lane. We stopped briefly as Chris was having a few problems with her bike.

We continued along the road, which rolled up and down, towards the A51. We turned right onto the A51 briefly before turning left onto Stableford Bank, wherewe started to climb over the ridge.

Having reached the top, we turned left left heading back down hill.

We stopped briefly outside a farm, before having to move to let a tanker pull out!

Next we headed back towards  Swynnerton, which we had gone through the previous day on the Saturday ride.

St Mary’s in Swynnerton

From Swynnerton, we headed on to Sandyford and then on towards Barlaston.

At Barlaston we joined the canal – it was actually at the same point that we had left the canal the previous day on the Saturday ride. We headed along the canal before coming off at Wedgewood.

Having come off the canal we cycled on to the World of Wedgewood. There was an Artisan Market event that day, which was interesting.

Having had a very nice lunch in the Dining Hall at Wedgewood, it retraced our route back to the canal. We then continued along the canal towards Stoke.

We came off the canal near to the Stoke City Stadium. From there we made our way back towards Keele University using a series of paths and quiet roads around Stoke.

We then followed an old railway line which brought us almost all the way to the university.

We then climbed Pepper Street before turning off onto Quarry Bank, wwhich took us over the A525

This brought us out near the back entrance to Keele University, where we had set out that morning. As we cycled back into the the university, there were some people dressed up and fighting with wooden swords.

We had cycled just over 26 miles. Although it was a bit lumpy in places, it was a good ride and everyone seemed to enjoy the day out.
