Andy’s Birthday Trip Part 1 : Sheffield Botanical Gardens

Andy’s Birthday Trip Part 1 : Sheffield Botanical Gardens

This year, for my birthday, we booked an overnight stay in Sheffield. It was a random choice. Neither of us had been to the city for a long time. One of the places we were recommended to visit were Sheffield Botanical Gardens. So that was where we started.

There was lots to see.

We started with the pavilions.

Inside, it is divided into different temperate regions.

Next, we wandered around the Four Seasons garden, which is constantly changing throughout the year.

We then moved over to the Victorian garden.

Before wandering down a section known as Osborn’s Field. It is described as a sheltered spot for tender plants.

At the bottom of the field is Marnock Garden. It is named after Robert Marnock who, in 1836, originally laid out the gardens.

We strolled down Thompson Road Walk.

And then found somewhere for lunch.

Back in the Botanical Gardens, we found a path that took us up to the Mediterranean climate garden, an area for sun-loving plants.

At the end of this section is a Bear Pit.

To leave in jail or not?

There is a bear in it!

Just around the corner is the Rose garden.

We walked through the Woodland Gardon of coppiced tree and shrubs.

Before stopping for a moment at the Rock and Water garden.

Finally, we returned to the pavilions via the Herbaceous gardens.

Sheffield Botanical Gardens are a fantastic place to visit. There is plenty to see and enjoy. Best of all … it is FREE!

It certainly started our short vacation off in a relaxed and enjoyable way.
