Tandem Coffee House
This was a new Stockport Community Cycling Club ride put together and led by Andy S. And it was a cycle ride that was very tempting to miss since their was promise of strong winds and possible rain.
Tentively Sarah and I plucked up the courage and stepped out of the door on an extremely windy morning. We made our way down to Torkington Park from where the ride would start.
Setting off we first cycled up Old Torkington Road and picked up the Middlewood Way.
From here we weaved our way through the edge of Marple and Chadkirk Park before cycling along a muddy Poise Brook (part of the Goyt Valley) and passing Goyt Hall on the way. This was a bit of a tough section since it was into a 30mph headwind.
Then there was a short stiff climb up through Vernon Park before making our way to over to our coffee stop at Tandem Coffee House. This is a newly cafe which openly welcomes cyclists – always a good start in our books! Not only that but since Andy S had given them a heads up that we would be coming and one of the cyclists was gluten-free, they went to the trouble of ensuring there was a fresh gluten-free cake available. Sarah said it was fab! It was just a small token but one that was much appreciated. My ginger and chocolate was equally tasty. Yes, this is a cafe we can happily recommend.
After the coffee break we headed back via Edgeley and Woodsmoor. With the wind now behind us we were back at the start quite quickly. All-in-all we had cycled nearly 14 miles.
The threatened winds which might have spoilt this ride never really materialised and all who cycled this ride today spoke of their enjoyment. Just goes to show that once you get out of the door and on your bike a great day of cycling is almost always guaranteed – no matter what time of year.
