Stretford to Liverpool

Stretford to Liverpool

This short little trip where we cycle from Stretford to Liverpool, stay overnight, and return the following day is something Sarah and I haven’t done too often. Something a little different. We would be making this cycling trip with our friends Andy and Mike. Indeed, the beginning of the ride was leaving the drive of Mike’s home! Weatherwise, we weren’t sure what was going to happen. That said, it was a pleasant sunny morning when we set off. We started…

Runcorn

Runcorn

A visit to Runcorn represented a new destination for the latest in the Stockport Community Cycling Club longer ride series. The start was familiar, Timperley Sports Club, and it was a bright day as a dozen or so club members met. Neil was leading the ride today, Sarah was the back-leader, and I was wingman/corner person. We set off through Altrincham. And through Bowden. And Dunham Massey. As we made our way to Lymm. Next, we cycled through Thelwall. This…

TPT Day 2 – Widnes to Stockport

TPT Day 2 – Widnes to Stockport

As we left Widnes Travelodge on TPT Day 2 it was a cool and misty morning. All was set for an enjoyable day of cycle touring. We decided on breakfast at the nearby Brewers Fayre. The canal also runs alongside the River Mersey and the morning mist provided for some wonderful photos as we looked out over the Runcorn sands. Soon…

Feeling refreshed,  it was time to get our bikes and start the TPT (Trans Pennine Trail). And then we were off! The route took us out of Southport, following the sand dunes along the coast. We  then followed the old Cheshire Lines railway. The route then…

JOGLE Day 10 – Preston to Whitchurch

JOGLE Day 10 – Preston to Whitchurch

Potentially JOGLE Day 10 in many ways seemed to offer the least exciting day of the tour. The first half of the day at least would be through the industrial north-west of England. As things would turn out however the day would be remembered for very different reasons! All seemed quiet as we left our B&B in Preston and started the day cycling through Avenham Park and alongside the River Ribble. It was another overcast day, and again for a short while…
