E2E Day 21 – Inverness to Helmsdale

E2E Day 21 – Inverness to Helmsdale

E2E Day 21. Following a week of picture postcard scenery, today was back to reality. This was the longest day of our journey covering 73 miles. We set off over the Moray Firth. Then followed National Cycle Network paths through Bridgend to Tain where we had lunch.    The afternoon proved a fairly relentless relentless slog straight up the busy A9. The scenery was quite nice but the lorries and headwind meant we couldn’treally enjoy it too much. We did manage…

E2E Day 20 – Loch Ness to Inverness

E2E Day 20 – Loch Ness to Inverness

E2E Day 20. Today an intrepid band of 8 set out on a scenic route to Inverness. We went back to Fort Augustus (about 9 miles) then round the other side of Loch Ness. E2E Day 19 – Glen Nevis to Loch Ness

E2E Day 19 – Glen Nevis to Loch Ness

E2E Day 19. The Glen Nevis Youth Hostel was at the bottom of Ben Nevis. The view of it from the door was great, although there were quite a number of midges flying around this morning! We set off and went back to Fort William and then set off down the Great Glen. Initially along the canal, through the forest (which was lovely and cool due to the shade from the trees). We then went along the main road for…

E2E Day 18 – Oban to Glen Nevis

E2E Day 18 – Oban to Glen Nevis

E2E Day 18 was a continuation of our Scotland experience. – more glorious weather and more stunning scenery. Today was a relatively relaxing day. We caught the 11.00am ferry for the Isle of Lismore. Then cycled along the one road across the island to the far end. The ferry runs hourly but not over lunch time. So we had a two hour lunch break soaking up the sun on the jetty. Glorious!    After that it was back on the mainland for…

E2E Day 17 – Lochranza to Oban

E2E Day 17 – Lochranza to Oban

E2E Day 17. Today was the first day of cycling with the extra 5 riders. It was a long ride of 63 miles, made harder because of the heat and at times the head winds. We started by taking the little ferry from Lochranza to Claonaig, then the cycling started. At the top of the first hill we stopped to take a picture. Andy P took his phone out of his jersey pocket and something fluttered away in the wind….
