Coast and Castles South Day 6 – Innerleithen to Edinburgh

Coast and Castles South Day 6 – Our final day of our official Coast and Castles South tour (though some of us will have a couple more days after this when we return to Berwick via the Coast and Castles alternative route) brought yet more glorious sunshine. Coast and Castles South Day 5 – Yetholm to Innerleithen

Leaving Beal, NCN Route 1 follows a coastal path through Lindisfarne Nature Reserve.    Unfortunately Neil managed to pick up an injury due to coming off worse after picking a fight…

Coast and Castles South Day 2 – Whitley Bay to Alnwick

Following our gentle introduction to our Coast and Castles South tour, Coast and Castles South Day 2 was our first proper day of touring. Leaving the excellent York House Hotel in Whitley Bay we picked up the NCN 72 cycle coastal path towards Blyth.    We passed the Blyth Battery Museum and decided to have a look round. Staffed by an enthusiastic group of volunteers it provided an interesting insight into British coastal defences during the two world wars along…

Coast and Castles South Day 1 – the adventure begins!

Coast and Castles South Day 1 – the adventure begins!

We had packed all our stuff and loaded up the bikes on Coast and Castles South Day 1. We were all ready for our Coast and Castles South Tour. Whatever we were taking, we had to carry.    Coast and Castles South Day 1 began by cycling to Manchester Piccadilly where we were catching the train (about 9 miles). As you can only book 2 bikes onto a train,  we were travelling in small groups up to Newcastle. The train…
