Castle Fraser

Castle Fraser

Following yesterdays walk up Green Hill, the second walk of our Aberdeenshire weekend would take us around the estate of Castle Fraser. Yesterday, it had rained morning, so we walked in the afternoon. Today, however, since it promised rain in the afternoon, we walked in the morning. Castle Fraser is just a few miles north of Midmar. It is one of Scotland’s largest tower houses. After leaving the visitor car park, we decided to follow Miss Bristow’s trail. This short…

Green Hill Walk

Green Hill Walk

Having arrived in Midmar and spending some time with Sarah’s cousin Clive and his wife Sally, it was time for a walk in the local hills. We decided to walk up the nearby Green Hill. Loch Kinord Walk

Loch Kinord Walk

Yesterday’s Braemar walk was of the hilly type. While continuing our post-Coast and Castles North tour in Aberdeenshire, today’s walk around Loch Kinord promised to be a more gentle affair. There is a circular walking route around the loch. We set off in an anti-clockwise direction following the blue/white duck waymarkers. We immediately…

In 1323, following Robert the Bruce’s successful campaign against the English as part of his rewarding families that fought with him, he granted the lands of Leys to Alexander Burnard….

Ordiefork: The Return

Ordiefork: The Return

Following an enjoyable stay with our friends in Ladybank we continued on to Ordiefork, the home of Sarah’s cousin Clive and his wife Sally. Ordiefork is the name of their home and it has been over two years since our last visit. As soon as we arrived we went for a short walk with Guinness, Clive and Sally’s dog. After the exercise it was time for the food. This took the form of a trip to the local Indian restaurant in…
