St Cuthbert’s Way Day 3 – Jedfoot Bridge to Morebattle
St Cuthbert’s Way Walk Day 3 would see us walking from Jedfoot Bridge to Morebattle – a distance of about 10 miles.
Leaving Jedburgh where we had stayed overnight, we got a lift back to Jedfoot Bridge with Nicholl, which is where our St Cuthbert’s Way Walk Day 2 had finished.
Once Nicholl had dropped off at the point where we left the route the previous day, she headed back into Jedburgh for a look around.

In the meantime, Neil and I were continuing along St Cuthbert’s Way, leaving Jedfoot Bridge and setting off towards Morebattle.
Having been busy chatting, we managed to miss a turning and it was about 0.5 mile before we realised that we had gone wrong, so had to turn around and go back!
Picking up the correct path, we were now back on track.
We soon started to follow this huge pipe for quite a long time.
Eventually we spotted the other end of the hose – it was at a generator pumping water out of the stream.
Having crossed over the river, we then climbed up, passing a gate with no obvious purpose
When we finally stopped climbing, we had reached and went through Blindwells Plantation.
The path then went over Cessford Moor, past Long plantation and on to Cessford.
Passing the edge of Cessford, we made our way to Cessford Castle – where we were meeting Nicholl for lunch.
After lunch we continued on to Morebattle.
We met Nicholl at the Church in Morebattle (next to the Templehall Hotel – we had hoped to stay there but it was full for the night that we were due to be there, so we had made altrenative arrangements). Turns out that there was a cafe in the nearby church where we managed to get a very nice coffee.
Morebattle was the end of our walk for the day. We then drove to Kelso, where we were staying for the night.
Day 3 of our St Cuthbert’s Way walk from Jedfoot Bridge to Morebattle had been nearly 11 miles and we had climbed 1,395 feet in total. It had been another very enjoyable day. You can see our route below:
