Siddington – Via Mottram St Andrew and Jodrell Bank
Sometimes you look outside early on an Autumn Sunday morning, rain pouring down, and the thought of cycling to Siddington is …well, not immediately appealing. However the reason why we love cycling is because when the rain abates and you pluck up the determination to step foot outside and ride to the start something special happens. More often than not the rest of the days weather is fine, the cycling is great, and you find yourself feeling really glad you made the effort.
This is exactly what happened for Stockport Community Cycling Club members this Sunday. We had expected a low turnout since the weather forecast wasn’t promising and yet nineteen club members met at Davenport Green.
We began by making our way through Bramhall.
From here we headed towards Woodford.
It was Remembrance Sunday, so at 11am we stopped in a lay-by on Lees Lane for two minutes in honour of those who have died in battle.
Soon we were on our way again as we headed for Mottram St Andrew via Wilmslow Old Road.
It’s always quite a climb but eventually we reached the junction at Chelford Road where we took a brief rest.
Then we were on our way again around Over Alderley.
Next we cycled to Redesmere.
At Redesmere Lake we took another break. We were accompanied by the local wildlife.
Leaving the lake we cycled through Siddington.
Lunch was taken at Jodrell Bank Cafe.
Whilst a tad expensive and rather busy such that we had to sit outside, the service was quick and the food was excellent. And best of all there was a range of gluten-free choices for Sarah. Certainly, a cafe to be recommended.
After lunch we headed back home, first through the Peovers.
And then through Marthall.
Eventually we reached Wilmslow.
Finally we were back in Stockport and heading back to the start as we weaved our way once again through Bramhall.
We arrived back at Davenport Green and had cycled approximately 41 miles. It had proven to be a great day of cycling and everyone seemed to have enjoyed themselves and were glad they had made that effort to step outside on a wet Autumn morning. Indeed the rain had largely held off. Then as we were heading home the heavens opened and the rain came down …
