Scottish C2C Day 4 – Edinburgh to Forth Bridge (and back)

Scottish C2C Day 4 – Edinburgh to Forth Bridge (and back)

Our Scottish C2C Day 4 would be our last day of the tour. The plan was to complete the Scottish C2C route by cycling to the Forth Bridge, and then finish by cycling back to Edinburgh Waverley Rail station.

At the end of our C2C Day 3 we had finished at overnight stop, Canon Court apartments. On our final morning we now left the apartment where we had been staying and headed over to Earthy Cafe for breakfast.

This place provided probably the best vegetarian cooked breakfast I have ever tasted!

We then turned on to the Chancelot path and after that the Trinity path. These are a really good network of off-road cycling and walking paths.

The last of these brought us back to the coastline at the Trinity suburb of Edinburgh.

We followed the coastal path through Granton.

And then towards Cramond. Here there is a tidal island with a causeway which enables the island to be reached at low tide.

The island though now uninhabited has experienced plenty of inhabitants making it their home over time, latterly during the World Wars.

After lunch we set off back to Edinburgh. It had started to rain.

And the route back began with a climb out of South Queensferry up Hawes Brae.

We then picked NCN Route 1 and followed this along the A90 for awhile. This was a route we had used as part of our JOGLE tour last summer.

The rain soon abated.

The route then left the side of the A90 and took us through Barnton.

After following the off-road paths for a few miles we came out at Haymarket.

The final part of our route saw us weave through the West End backstreets of Edinburgh.
