SCCC Weekend – Day 2 Burnby Gardens
Whilst the others had gone off cycling on Sunday, I went to visit Burnby Gardens which is near Pocklington.
Not knowing anything about Burnby Gardens, I was very pleasantly surprised when I got there! The lady at the reception told me that she hadn’t expected to see anyone due to the bad weather forecast, but there where quite a few people arriving at the same time as I did.
I walked along the path along the Upper Lake, down towards the Lower Lake.
This lead me to Primrose Wood and the Woodland Walk.
Inside the wood was a stumpery and some interesting carvings.
Having been round the woodland walk, I then headed back along the other side of the lake.
Through the rockery.
Past a section of the lake which contained some quite big fish. They swam over to see me.
I then walked past the aviary.
Then through the garden.
From there I wandered into the secret garden.
Then back to the lake, past the giraffes.
Then on to the cafe for a rest and refreshments. It was very good cake too!
Within the same building as the cafe was the museum. This contained many of the items collected by Major Stewart on his travels around the world.
I loved one of the quotes from Major Stewart:
“I suddenly said to my wife: ‘We”re terribly dull people, let’s travel around the world and then we shall have something to talk about’.”
Burnby Gardens was a lovely place to go and I can recommend it if you ever find yourself near Pocklington.
