SCCC Tour de Stockport
Saturday was the SCCC Tour de Stockport. It started fromLowland Road near Woodsmoor Station, where 20 of us met up. A very nice day for cycling it was too!
We cycled along part of the Fred Perry way which runs alongside the Mirlees fields.
We then used the roads through the housing estates and eventually into Bramhall Park.
Unfortunately just as we came out the other side of Bramhall Park, there was a slight mechanical problem – Dave’s chain snapped and had to be repaired.
The route took us onto the track which then runs along the side of Bramhall Golf Course
We wiggled our way through Bramhall and then under the railway by Cheadle Hulme School before making our way through bruntwood Park
We then made our way trhough Cheadle then on to cross over the River Mersey
We took the bridge over the River Mersey and followed NCN62 up towards the Pyramid
We then crossed over the mototway and followed the Trans Pennine Trail for a while
We follwed the River Tame for a while and went under the M60, where we found a huge mural, which wasn’t there the last time we cycled down there!
We made our way past Stockport Market, the Robinsons Bewery visitor centre then on the the Tandem Coffee House for some refreshments.
The Tandem Coffee House is a cycle friendly cafe in Stockport on Higher Hillgate. They have lovely cakes and soup and are always very welcoming – a highly recommended place to visit when you are next in Stockport!
After our refreshments we were delayed slightly by a puncture but we finally made our way into and then through Woodbank Park
Leaving Woodbank Park we went through Woodlands Park and then through Offerton
On via Hazel Grove before making our way back to where we started in Woodsmoor
Andy lead the ride and John was the back leader with Andy Sykes, Neil and Graham marking the corners as we went. Everyone seemed to enjoy our Tour de Stockport and many were suprised at some new paths that they had not been down before.
