SCCC Jodrell Bank Ride 2019

SCCC Jodrell Bank Ride 2019

Sunday was the SCCC Jodrell Bank Ride 2019. It is a ride that we have done plenty of times before but is still a good one. I wasn’t meant to be out cycling today, I was meant to be running the Stockport 10 instead. A niggle in my left leg, meant that I ended up cycling instead of running. It was so nice to be out on my bike again – I haven’t managed much cycling in the last few months. Andy was on a training course, and so didn’t make the ride.

We met up in Wilmslow near the Leisure Centre. Des was our leader for the day and Neil was the back leader.

We left the leisure centre near Wilmslow Station.

We left Wilmslow via Wilmslow Park and Dean Row then turned off towards Newton.

Having passed the garden centres, we turned off the busy road and headed towards Mottram St Andrew.

From Mottram St Andrew we headed up Hare Hill towards Over Alderley.

Cycled down Artists Lane, which was rather wet in places!

First glimpse of Jodrell Bank

As we arrived at Jodrell Bank, there were big new signs along the drive proclaiming that it is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Jodrell Bank cafe was fairly quiet until we arrived! Having had some lunch, we set off back down the drive down to the main road.

We then turned right and set off towards Goostrey.

Just before Goostrey, we turned right and headed towards Marthall.

Passing through Over Peover and Peover Superior on our route to Marthall.

From Marthall we cycled to Great Warford.

Passing the Frozen Mop at Great Warford, we picked up Newton Hall Lane, then Burleyhurst Lane, through Morley Green as we headed back towards Wilmslow.

We kept off Altrincham Road and cycled down a back road that runs parallel. It was beginning to get a little damp and there was a cold headwind starting!

We came into Wilmslow and then made our way way towards the Leisure Centre, back to where we had started.

In all we had cycled 28 miles, had a nice stop in the cafe at Jodrell Bank, and we had arrived back at a reasonable time. It was good to be out cycling today, and my leg never hurt once!
