Pier-to-Pier Itinerary
This Pier-to-Pier Itinerary outlines a 240-mile southern England coast-to-coast route. It is, as usual, our annual group cycle tour with some of our friends from Stockport Community Cycling Club. It will be our thirteenth summer tour and, as always, it will be a special event.
This coast-to-coast starts from Clevedon Pier, which opened in 1869, and crosses southern England finishing at Southend-on-Sea Pier. This iron version opened in 1890 and is the longest pleasure pier in the world.
In between these two Victorian piers there are the major cities of Bristol and London, the Bristol and Bath Railway Path, the first official cycle path in the UK, and the beauty of the North Wessex Downs. There are the historic market towns of Chippenham and Marlborough, the horse racing towns of Newbury and Ascot, and the coastal towns of Leigh-on-Sea and Southend-on-Sea. There is Hampton Court, Richmond Park and the River Thames cycle path. There are canals, cities, countryside, and bridleways. All of this, and more, waiting to be explored by bike!

Day 1 – Clevedon Pier to Bristol
Travel to Clevedon.
Then begin the Pier-to-Pier cycle tour by cycling from Clevedon to Bristol (Daily distance: 23 miles – Pier-to-Pier: 23 miles).
Stay at Bristol Central Travelodge, Bristol.
Day 2 – Bristol to Chippenham
Cycle from Bristol to Chippenham (Daily distance: 33 miles – Pier-to-Pier: 56 miles).
Stay at Chippenham Travelodge, Chippenham.
Day 3 – Chippenham to Newbury
Cycle from Chippenham to Newbury (Daily distance: 33 miles – Pier-to-Pier: 89 miles).
Stay at The Chequers Hotel, Newbury.
Day 4 – Newbury to Staines
Cycle from Newbury to Staines (Daily distance: 35 miles – Pier-to-Pier: 124 miles).
Stay at Staines Travelodge, Staines.
Day 5 – Staines to Greenwich
Cycle from Staines to Greenwich (Daily distance: 26 miles – Pier-to-Pier: 150 miles).
Stay at Angerstein Hotel, Greenwich.
Day 6 – Greenwich to Southend-on-Sea Pier
Cycle from Greenwich to Southend-on-Sea Pier (Daily distance: 36 miles – Pier-to-Pier: 186 miles).
Stay at Pebbles Guest House, Southend-on-Sea.
